In adults, kyphosis can be caused by degenerative disc disease, osteoporosis, compression fractures, injury, certain diseases, tumors or spondylolisthesis (slipping of one vertebra forward on another). Kyphosis may cause fatigue, back pain and stiffness and may be evident by a rounded back appearance or ” hump”.
Treatment Options for Kyphosis
Surgical intervention may be recommended for kyphosis caused by tumor, infection or multiple compression fractures with debilitating pain or deformity. Congenital kyphosis may require bracing or surgery at a young age.
