Procedure: Cervical Anterior Total Disc Replacement
“I had my voice back immediately after surgery. For the first time in my life, I didn’t have any reaction to the anesthesia. I had a little soreness right after I woke up, but other than that all my old symptoms and pain are all gone. I got to leave the day of my procedure. I haven’t taken a single pain med since I walked out of the hospital. I’m only 3 months out and my incision is healing nicely.”
The care I received from everyone at Midwest Spine was top-notch. Everyone was helpful, kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. The folks at the desk, CNAs, nurses, PAs, and surgeons all exceeded my expectations and I do not hesitate to recommend Midwest Spine to anyone who is in need of the medical care they provide. Two practitioners stand out as exemplary. PA Eric Salman and Surgeon David Chang.
Salman has been caring for me as my degenerative disk disease progresses for several years and each time I have gone to see him he has proven to be a straight-shooter who is willing to tell me the truth but do it in a kind and supportive way. He is warm, funny, smart, and over the years, has made a real effort to know me as a person. I truly believe he has my best interests at heart and I trust Eric Salman. Not only that, but I actually enjoy our appointments and look forward to seeing him. Frankly, in today’s health-care climate which seems to value dollars over all else, that is high praise.
Dr. Chang performed surgery on my cervical spinal cord this year. When we met preop I was impressed with his honest, open, and kind demeanor and his warmth. He took time with me, answered all of my questions, and left me feeling as if I was in great hands. The surgery went well and Dr. Chang went out of his way to check in with me after. I had heard that Dr. Chang was the best and my experiences confirmed that.
“Dr. Chang did a triple fusion on my neck. My original orthopedic surgeon had scared me when he said I needed a ‘rod in my entire neck’ and that I would never be able to touch my chin to my chest again. There was also a risk of damage to the vocal cords which freaked me out since I teach and sing. I’m glad I got a second opinion from Dr. Chang because he did a great job. My fusion went well, and I have full range of motion and no vocal damage. I can’t say enough good about my experience with him, his staff, and United Hospital.”
“Dr David Chang did my lumbar fusion on March 1st of 2016. I immediately had some feeling back in 2 of my toes that had been numb for many, many years. Overall, the surgery was a success. I would recommend this surgery to someone that is in the same condition that I was in.”
“Dr. Chang rebuilt my broken neck 27 July 2016…four days later I got use of my right hand and right arm back! Thank you to Dr. Chang and his entire Team…wonderful!”
“My experience with Dr. Chang was that he actually cared about his patients. He took the time to actually draw me diagrams of what was wrong with my back and how he was going to fix it. This was going to be my 3rd back surgery and I was not even 40. I was scared but I was in so much pain there was no other option. I couldn’t walk, sit or stand for more than 5 minutes. I would get paralyzing pain…I had to do the surgery. I am so glad I did!!! I had my L4-L5 fused. It is 8 months later and he has given me the go-ahead to start golfing again…I never thought I would be able too! He is a friendly, down to Earth, surgeon. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. I was just going to go to him for a third opinion, but he will be my back doctor going forward.
Thank you so much for giving me my life back.”
“I went for a 3rd opinion at the Mayo, received the same diagnosis and went back to Dr. Chang because I felt confident with his skill and experience. I can’t say enough good things about his work. I was starting to get weak in my right arm, left leg and numbness in my extremities. He did a laminectomy and fusion between c3-c6 to stop me from becoming paralyzed. I am a year and 2 months out now and although it has not been a cakewalk I am doing well. He did a great job and I was treated very well at Midwest spine. I am still walking, talking and playing my guitar. Thank you Dr. Chang!”
“Dr. Chang is a very good doctor. I have had 2 neck fusions with him. I am very impressed with his work. I will HIGHLY recommend him to anyone whom asks me. His team are very helpful and nice. He will go out of his way to make sure you feel cared for and to find the problem so I can heal. I trust him with my life!!!”
